While many retailers utilize garment bags made from recycled materials, the new program will go a step further by ensuring that these bags are given a second life, and are kept out of landfills.”We’re taking big steps to reduce our carbon footprint with this new packaging partnership with TerraCycle,” said Ian Rosen, president and COO, Harry Rosen.
“The vision for our brand’s more sustainable future starts by ensuring we are meeting our clients’ expectations and we take pride in offering them options that minimize the environmental impact of each purchase.”To participate in the program, clients can return used garment bags to any Harry Rosen location, excluding Outlet stores. TerraCycle will then collect and recycle the bags into various products such as gym mats, bicycle seats, pillows, and more, further extending their lifespan. To incentivize participation, Harry Rosen will charge a Green TerraCycle Fee of $2 for each suit and pant garment bag provided at checkout in-store. Clients will then receive 500 Club Harry points ($5 value) for each returned bag, which can be redeemed towards future purchases. A maximum of four credits will be issued per client per month. The initiative follows the launch of a new packaging, characterized by a return to the brand’s iconic green aesthetic, ‘Harry’s Green’. The packaging is 100% recyclable and made of 40% Post-Consumer Waste (PCW), including bag handles. Additionally, the packaging is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, ensuring responsible sourcing from managed forests. The launch of the garment bag recycling program also coincides with the retailer’s preparations for its 70th-anniversary celebrations in the fall.
